Dish TV is a satellite television service provider based in India. It provides direct broadcast satellite television, along with pay per view, and pay television services. It is a part of Zee Network Enterprise, which in turn is a venture of Essel Group. In the Fortine India 500 rankings of the largest corporations in India, it ranked in the no. 437 and no. 5 spots. Dish TV broadcast its signals at 95˚ through the NSS-6 satellite. It uses MPEG-2 compression technology for its transmissions. Jawahar Goel is the Head of Business and managing director of Dish TV. He is also the president of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation, and he promotes the Essel Group. In an attempt to modernize television, Dish TV was launched by Zee Network. Dish TV allows their customers of access a variety of features apart from simple broadcast television. These features include parental lock, games, electronic program guides, movies on demand, interactive TV, and over 400 channels. The company’s major competitors are cable TV and other DTH service providers such as Videocon, TATA Sky, and Airtel Digital TV.
Dish TV utilizes the NSS-6 satellite to broadcast its signal. The NSS-6 satellite was launched on the 17th of December 2002 by NewSkies (a European satellite service provider). Initially, Dish TV had been using the INSAT satellite, but on July 2004 it changed to the NSS-6. The change was due to fact that Dish TV wanted to offer channel to their subscribers, and the NSS-6 had the capacity to host more transponders. Moreover, Dish TV also acquired transponders on the AsiaSat 5 satellite so that it can provide HD channels using MPEG 4 compression technology. At the moment, Dish TV has 5 working transponders in the AsiaSat 5 satellite.
According to data acquired till 31 October 2012, Dish TV has a customer base consisting of 13 million. It is currently the largest direct broadcast satellite television provider in Asia.
In 2010, Dish TV high definition services called truHD were launched. With the introduction of the service, subscribers can now enjoy 5 times better picture quality. Viewing on an HD television, channels have 16:9 aspect ratio and also support 5.1 digital Dolby surround sound.

Dish TV, as the first DTH service provider in India, was honored for its efforts to create shareholder value and maintaining financial health.
The Trust Research Authority (TRA) of India also voted Dish TV as the “Most Trusted Brand”, as published in their Brand Trust Report of 2014. Recently Dish TV has launched the truHD+ feature which allows subsribers to record live content on a 2 TB hard drive.
