Airtel Digital TV provides digital satellite TV service all over India. The satellite service provider was launched in 2008 by Bharti Airtel. It transmits direct satellite TV service to thousands of households in India. The service uses DVB S2 and MPEG-4 compression technology, and transmits via satellite SES-7 at 108˚ E.
Airtel digital TV currently broadcasts 395 channels and a total of 19 HD channels to their subscribers. Airtel digital, on 4th May 2010, announced the launch of their 3D readyHD recorder for personal video recording. The new launch retains many of the features of the old products including Remote Recording. However, the 3D ready high definition video recorder adds many new features such as Search by Genre and Category and Automatic Favorites. It is also 3D ready.
Airtel also announced on 24th May 2011, that both its digital HD TV and HD DVR will use software for standard definition, that will allow standard content to be upgraded to 1080i.
Airtel Digital’s broadcasts are standard definition, suign MPEG-4 compression technology coupled with ITV or interactive service. A seven day electronic program guide is also provided. The interactive service allows Airtel Digital TV subscribers to access many other additional features, such as the ability to book movie theater tickets and shop. A universal remote is provided that controls both the DTH box and the TV.
